Junior Specialist

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for one Junior Specialist in molecular and cellular biology and biochemistry.

Position Description

Research (95%):
The position will focus on characterization of the budding yeast SPB. The candidate will design and assist with experiments using molecular biology, microscopy, genetics, and biochemistry techniques. This position requires strong cell and molecular biology skills to successfully execute these experiments. The candidate will then summarize data and assist with preparation of figures and writing of manuscripts for publication. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, responsible individual with strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.

University Service and Professional Development (5%):
The successful candidate will present research at lab meetings and at departmental group meetings. There may be opportunities to present research at local conferences as well. The successful candidate may also assist in mentoring undergraduate students in the lab.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, cell biology, or a related field with a minimum of two years experience in related laboratory research. Must have experience and be comfortable with general cloning and basic biochemistry and cell biology techniques. Must be able to keep a complete and detailed laboratory notebook of experimental procedures and data to archive, label and document data for publication, proposals and presentations.

Salary Range

Step I - $39,500 [100% annual] or Step II - $42,100 [100% annual]), commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Term of Appointment

Short term, maximum two-year appointment based on the needs of the research project. Appointments may be made up to 100%.
