The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for one Junior Specialist in biochemistry and structural biology to join the lab of Dr. Jennifer Cash.
Position Description
Research (85%): This position will mainly entail lab management responsibilities. It will include carrying-out protein production and purification and performing biochemical, biophysical, and cell-based assays and experiments to understand RhoGEF signaling and regulation. The candidate will summarize data and prepare figures. The candidate also will be responsible for ordering lab supplies, maintaining equipment, overseeing lab safety, developing protocols, making lab stocks, and maintaining cell culture lines (bacterial, insect, and mammalian) as well as other lab management duties.
University and Public Service (15%): The candidate will present their research in weekly lab meetings. The candidate will also oversee orientation and basic training of incoming lab personnel.
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Qualified applicants must have a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry or structural, molecular, or cellular biology. Applicants do not need to have their degree at the time of application but must have it before starting the position. Candidate must be able to keep a complete and detailed laboratory notebook of experimental procedures and data and to archive and document reagents and data for publications, grant proposals, and/or presentations. Solid organizational skills are an absolute must. Prior experiences in lab management and mentoring trainees are a plus. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills and the ability to work well both independently and as a part of a team
Salary Range
A reasonable estimate for this position is $53,100 at Step 1 (@ 100%) or $56,600 at Step 2 (@ 100%)
Junior Specialist NEX: A reasonable estimate for this position is $25.44/hr at Step 1 or $27.11/hr at step 2
